CHILDREN & YOUTH

Children and youth are important to us at First United Church. Through Sunday school, worship, and other children's programs, we nurture and support the spiritual growth of our children. They are precious companions on our journey of faith.

The safety of our children and youth is a paramount concern for us.  Click here to read about our Youth Protection Policy.

Want to volunteer to work with our children and youth?  Download an APPLICATION FORM here, then contact Caela Wood.  A completed Employee/

Volunteer Application and Disclosure form is required.

Children's Learning Time.  In these Sunday-School-like classes, children interact with adult leaders and peers to learn about many of the same themes adults are exploring in worship.  The lectionary-based Seasons of the Spirit curriculum is designed to help children explore meaning and mystery in the Bible.  Children will attend the first part of the worship service with their families and may leave for Children's Learning Time after the children's sermon. For a list of current CLT teachers, click here.

"KidsWorship."  Kids ages three through sixth grade are invited to worship God in their own way.  Each week will feature music, hearing and talking about God, and lots of time for play and games.  This time is led by two teachers on a rotational pattern.  The class meets from 9:30 - 10:30 a.m. in Room Two.  To read more click here.

Children's Sermons. Children are invited to the front of the sanctuary every Sunday to hear a story or message designed especially for them. Following the children's sermon, younger children are invited to join their adult leader for Children's Learning Time.

Youth Group.  Kids sixth grade and up are invited to join our Youth Group.  During the school year, the Youth Group meets on Sunday mornings at 9:30 a.m. for learning, planning and socializing.  Social events are typically held the first Friday night of the month throughout the year.  Our youth are especially active in service activities.  The past year they organized a food/supply drive for the Monroe County Humane Society, organized a Christmas toy drive for kids at Middle Way House, and walked in the Homeward Bound Walk.  They are currently raising money for the Heifer Project.  For more information about our Youth Group, please e-mail Caela Wood.

Baptism and Confirmation.  First United provides a confirmation/baptism experience for children who have reached the age at which they are ready to do in-depth study about what it means to follow the way of Christ and be a part of a Christian community.  For more information about this, please e-mail Caela Wood.

Special Events for Children. Special events for children are planned around festive seasons of the year. Typically, at least one special children's event will be held in autumn, winter, and spring.  A Vacation Bible School is also a yearly event.
