First United Church | An inclusive Christian community in Bloomington, Indiana Bible Quote

Moving to a new city and state raised many questions about meeting our spiritual needs. We needed to be part of a congregation that supports basic human needs locally and world wide, practices diversity, values autonomy, provides worship with dignity, and an opportunity to grow in our relationship with God. We discovered that First United Church meets all these needs and more.

SUNDAY WORSHIP
10:45 every Sunday morning

Worship is a time for celebration and contemplation as a community of Christian faith. Through song and prayer, through silence and the spoken word, through sharing Communion at the table of Christ, we remember that we are children of God, following the way of Jesus. Weekly worship begins at 10:45 on Sunday morning. We're located at 2420 East 3rd Street, on the corner of 3rd and Woodcrest, just west of Rebound and the IU Credit Union.

Communion (the Lord's Supper). We celebrate Communion on the first Sunday of every month. All are welcome to participate in this fundamental sacrament of the Christian faith.

Baptism. Our church practices both believers' baptism by immersion and infant baptism, in accordance with the historic traditions of our two denominations.

Candlelight Communion Service. A special candlelight service is held during the season of Advent (Christmas), usually on the second Sunday of December. The sanctuary is filled with candles and seasonal decorations, as we gather for a Communion service filled with Christmas carols and choral singing.

Church interiorOther Special Services. Throughout the church year other special services are offered, including World Communion Sunday, All Saints Day, Christmas Eve worship, Ash Wednesday Service, Maundy Thursday and Good Friday services, and contemplative worship during Lent.

See our calendar page for the times of special services.
