Lake Como Milan

Road Trip

For most day trips on Lake Como from Milan, you can choose to take the train to Como, see the city and then take the ferry around Bellagio before returning to Milan. In an attempt to make the most of our trip and see as much as possible, we decided to take the train to Varenna, followed closely by the short ferry trip to Bellagio, followed closely by the next ferry trip Como and also the train back to Milan. This round trip means that we will miss the opportunity to see one of these beautiful communities on the shores of the lake.

Varenna Varenna region

You will see that it is not as swollen as many of its neighbors who are visited. Varenna is located halfway along the eastern shore of the lake. The train ride from Milan Central Station to Varenna takes one hour and costs only about 7 euros. Trains pass almost every hour. Varenna is exceptional for several reasons. First, the fact that Varenna is less touristy than other towns on the coast. Its cobbled streets and narrow alleys slowly lead to Varenna’s old city and the Church of St. George with its bell tower overlooking the town.

The World Famous Bellagio

The World Famous BellagioIt is a beautiful and charming community, full of charm and character. You can walk along the shore, climb up the mountain to the city center, explore ancient dinosaurs, shopping in the narrow streets, and have a brilliant lunch. Besides, you can do it with a breathtaking view of the lake, which you can always enjoy. You can enjoy everything that the Bellagio has to offer. It would be best if you planned to spend at least a few hours in Bellagio before boarding the ferry to visit Como, which is located at the southern end of the lake around the western section. Therefore, you can enjoy outstanding scenery.

If you start from Como, you will have several options available. Como is bigger than Varenna and Bellagio, so it will probably take a little more time to study it. It has an extensive coastline and a lovely building to attend. There is also a funicular that can take you up the mountain in a neighborhood called Brunate. Once you get to the top, it is a bit confusing where there are the best views. We explored Brunate, set up an impressive church, and headed to a viewpoint with a lake view and the hills.
